An electric bike is an investment that pays for itself over years of use – but only if it is taken care of. The good news: basic maintenance is simple and doesn't require special expertise.
Battery – the heart of an electric bike
The battery is the most expensive single component of an electric bike. Keep it in good condition as follows:
- Charge the battery before it drops below 20%
- Do not leave the battery fully charged for a long time
- Store in a cool, dry place (5–20 °C)
- In winter, store indoors and charge once a month
Tires and brake pads
Check tire pressure regularly – correct pressure improves riding comfort and extends tire life. Also check the brake pads: worn pads reduce braking power and can damage the rim.
Chain and drivetrain
Clean and lubricate the chain approximately every 300–500 km. A dirty chain wears out larger drivetrain components, which becomes expensive in the long run.
Winter storage
If you don't ride in winter, clean the bike thoroughly, remove the battery, and store it indoors. Check all parts in spring before the first ride.
